The Wanton are doing the bidding of a dream creature, so they only can get their instructions when the fall into a deep sleep. Well if I were them I'd learn how to enter a state of waking sleep, or lucid dreaming. Seers often do this by inhaling volcanic fumes and meditating. The Dream Furnace contains volcanic vents that spew forth a strange alchemical brew that if you could breathe water, and were warded against the heat would put you in just the right peaceful trance.
